Individuals, obviously, do not develop in a vacuum, and our earliest development is dependent on others; physically, emotionally, and socially. We absorb, positive and negative, experiences that teach us what has value in life. This primarily occurs in one’s traditional familiar cultural context. Whether we accepted or reject the values and traditions of our ancestors we can never escape the impact of centuries on our modern perspective of life. In an ever increasingly diverse society, it is important to understand first our own cultural framework, then seek to understand other’s cultural perspectives.
